hey plus,
don't lah, maybe we're busy. :)

you like bright colours, don't you. I think that relects your joyful and hopeful personality.

plus, i may try out your wax and watercolor techniques one day. i'm more of a pencil/ink type of doddler.

i didn't go to art school too. :)

Plus Ultra said...

Sorry, dsnake1 never meant you or Medusa, I meant many of my friends in Kluang and my own sister in law (YES, Cheng, you!) in Singapore...tell me over phone but not on blog...

Thes are incredibly beautiful! Is the process similar to cloth batik? I would love to try it. : ) This is a beautiful website...a treat to visit.

Now that I have read back, learned how you do them, I will try...one more question tho...unlike cloth batik, you do not iron out, remove the wax...but leave it for texture?

Very lovely and so full of fantasy! Beautiful stuff!

Plus Ultra said...

Hi Pat, thanks for asking, the great thing about wax or candle on paper is that you can vary its size, and you also get an uneven edge.....click on my paintings and you enlarge it, see the lovely serrated edges, to high light these edges, I take a Chinese brush and with a touch of black create the margin of the serrated edges, can you see it, it is so fine that from a distance you dont see it but you get a fantastic effect from that.. touching with the black colour is best done when the colours are still wet, when dry you will only be outlining with black ...and thats very different, Actually this is just an extension of Batik but it is cheaper with paper...I dont know of anybody else who do this!!!Try it out and let me know, better still post it and I will come by.....I didnt go to art school, so apologies for my untechnical babbling description..!

The colours in your paintings are fiery but at the same time they don't scare or put you off. All the colours are in perfect harmony. Thank you

Kianseng dear,

I was looking forward to your visit although I just posted this afternoon. I was “studying” (actually scrutinizing) your while I accidentally clicked and it enlarged giving me an opportunity to see that there IS a sketch underneath them. I like the candles as well as the crayolas, but I think I will tick to the lightest fluorescent ones – like in “Nautilus Eye”.
I don’t quiet understand the use of the Chinese brush (got some!), will have to observe detail of yours closer…
Ah, Sensei in the distance – so grateful I am for your kind mentoring and, your supporting words.

My occupation, you ask?
I am “transitioning” to full time “Artist”, from (still) Facilitator and Speaker, which has been my main focus these past four years.
I have had “quiet a full life” and I am blessed with a creative streak that I apply to everything – thought, people, things, space……
I free-lanced most of my life, but my main occupation for more than 25yrs.
has been that of Interpreter and Translator.

I am still curios about “dream maker”… sounds like the perfect “occupation”.

Blessings and angel dust sprinklings of joy

PS

Please Plus Ultra, what size and type of paper do you use.

Rice paper perhaps? Used it many, many years ago - it was available in rolls...

I think I figured out what you meant to do with the chinese brush

Have a pleasant weekend

I returned once again to this beautiful post as I continue my explorations and experimentations with watercolor, having only used acrylics previously. You have created such a beautiful effect, and I most appreciate the description you gave above in a previous comment. Just stunning.

Angeldust, you are catching on, look carefully, these are Paper Batik Montage.....

constance wong said...

These are 'magically' beautiful! And I love the title too....
Well, yes, I'm a Christian, and though I'm not a kiasu I kiasi! ha! ha! Have a blessed week ahead.

Plus Ultra said...

Constance, that was a lovely play of words,it has triggered a sermon in my head....thanks for visiting and have a lovely, art-filled, purposeful week...to be created in the image of God means to be creative like God, the nearest we are to God is when we are engaged in some art form...like what you are doing on your blog, if you know of any other Malaysian blogs that hosts art forms (whatever type) please let me know, I am putting you on my links, if I may..

Dear Kianseng

You are definitely a master (also) at keping me in suspense...

montage,as in th layering of design - which I have noticed, or as the layering or joining of paper as could be indicated by straight lines, but... ? Don't really looks it.

Oh, Serenity is also "watching" I am sure, as we are also keeping an eye on each other.

Love and Joy to you

I see winged creatures, of varying forms and poses, in all of your art works here. Mythical ones. ^_^

Thank you for dropping by, and leaving a comment in, my site. Oh, I've been reading your poems here; especially liked the ones entitled "The Patient Answers," "The Quiet Heart" and "Camel." I do hope to read more.

Cheers.

Plus Ultra said...

Thanks, it is time to move on, to morrow I will be posting a new poem, took me three weeks to write it, so watch out for it...it is entitled "Seeking Asylum"
